DOWN cosmopolitan Broughton Street lies the Bakehouse Company, an unassuming cafe-cum-deli stacked with character and yesteryear charm.
Boasting the feel of a Victorian shop, courtesy of antique display cases, old-fashioned tables and chairs, polished wooden floors and wall art, the new venture by former interior designer Patrick Crawshaw is a welcome addition to the Capital's cafe c
ulture scene.
But don't expect old-fashioned or staid food offerings. The menu – sit-in or take away – is bursting with thoughtfully designed options, with emphasis on local sourcing and organic, fair trade goods. Lunch dishes include Simple Simon pies (£5.50 inclusive of salad), fresh soup of the day with a fresh roll (£3.20), colourful salads (£4.10), tuna melt wraps (£3.80) and meat platters (£6.95). And trust us, every option imaginable is delicious, with everything made from scratch. Freshly baked cakes are also available, as is a wide array of loose teas (served in silver tea pots all for £2.50) and fresh coffee options, each £1.80.
Chic and understated, retro and cool, no wonder Bakehouse Company is fast becoming the destination of choice.
