RED TOP REVIEW

Kirkcaldy gets its romantic stripes
It was only a matter of t
ime before they started dancing in the streets of Kirkcaldy, a slow dance at that, as the town is more romantic than Florence, according to the Daily Record. The paper reveals today that an Italian - can you get more romantic than that? - took his girlfriend all the way to the Lang Toun to pop the question. Marialuisa Manzuoli said yes and Paolo Barbieri is now looking forward to serving Irn Bru at their Tuscan wedding. Ahhh.

Getting wed in the cheap
Marriage is mixed with the credit crunch in the Daily Mirror in true tabloid style. Odette Fenwick and her groom-to-be have planned a cut-price wedding. Cost: £597.29. The guests are being asked to bring their own food and wine, the dress was £52 from eBay and second-hand rings only set them back £19. That really is ahhh.

Fishy tales
The old red top maxim, you couldn't make it up, is put to good use in The Sun with an upside down goldfish. Aussie the fish is a star attraction at the Globe Inn, Lympstone, Devon, because it swims upside down. It's all down to a bladder problem, according to experts, who add that the fish is in no distress.

BUSINESS

RBS reports £691m loss
Royal Bank of Scotland group has reported a pre-tax loss of £691m for the first six months of the year - the second biggest loss in UK banking history. This is a reversal from a profit of £5bn for the same period last year.

However, the loss was not as great as some analysts had expected. There had been predictions it could be greater than £1bn. The group said it was hit by £5.9bn of write-downs after the credit crunch reduced the value of many of its mortgages and assets.

Chief executive Fred Goodwin said the losses had been a "chastening experience". He warned that difficult conditions in financial markets "look set to be compounded by a deteriorating economic outlook".

Marmalade madness
Nell Nelson continues to prove that just because you are Scottish and eat a lot it doesn't make you part of the national health crisis. In tonight's The Woman Who Ate Scotland, she travels to Carnoustie and makes a batch of marmalade, then Dundee where it's raspberry and frangipane tarts.

Women doing it all
Since losing in Sir Alan's eyes, Apprentice contestant Saira Khan has made her TV time work for her. Tonight she leads a Money Programme investigation into the rise of the 'mumpreneur' - women who combine running their own business with raising a family.

Fanning around
"Err, Cammy? Can I borrow your fan for my mum/wife? It's the hot flushes y'know." No wonder Demi had all that surgery on her knees. She knew that one day she'd be standing next to Cameron and those fabulous legs of hers.

JL Frizz-Ease
That Justin Lee Collins is funny is a given. That we love him in spite of, not because of, the hair is also accepted. But that doesn't mean that we shouldn't hunt down and kill the hairdresser responsible.

Nipper
And while Mummy is flushing in Japan, young Rumer Willis seems determined to go out in outfits that barely conceal her nipples. We've warned you about support, young lady. Don't come running to us when everything goes south - that is, if you can run without giving yourself a black eye.

Hibs signs Yantorno
Fabian Yantorno has signed a two-year deal with Hibernian.
The 25-year-old midfielder has been training with the Easter Road club after being released by Gretna in March. The Uruguayan impressed at Gretna before being ruled out for the remainder of the season with a long-term knee injury.

Gretna's financial situation meant they could not afford his rehabilitation and Hibs stepped in with a view to signing the player once fit again. Yantorno trained with Hibs this summer and featured as a trialist in pre-season games before finally putting pen to paper.
