DAYS OUT
Aberdeen International Youth Festival may have kicked off last week, but the closing events today and tomorrow mean that there are plenty of performances left for culture vultures in the granite city.
Highlights over the next 48 hours include the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra of Hong Kong at the Music Hall tonight, and the closing International Variety Gala at His Majesty's tomorrow night to round up the spectacular programme of young artists from around the world, who congregate in Aberdeen every year. http://aberdeenfestival.ning.com/

The South By Southwest exhibition, which has taken over all the main galleries in Dumfries and Galloway over the past month, moves to Gracefield Arts, Dumfries this week. Exploring and exhibiting art which has been influenced by the area's landscape and people, from 1880-1940, it's a show not to be missed. www.futuremuseum.co.uk

Edinburgh's Festivals are in full flight this weekend, with the International Festival opening tonight, the Book Festival tomorrow and the Fringe and Art festivals going strong one week in. See www.edinburgh-festivals.com/ for full details of the month-long jamboree.

MUSIC
Aly Bain and Phil Cunningham are never shy of a bit of hard touring, as they find themselves in most Scots' favour when it comes to traditional and contemporary folk music. This month they are touring extensively throughout Scotland, starting from tonight in Stirling Albert Halls, then on to Dumfries, Arran, Berwick and Innerleithen later in the month. www.philandaly.com

FILM
Summer holidays dictate a lot of the viewing in the multiplexes , and this week's addition to the likes of Wall.E et al is The Fox And The Child. Directed by March Of The Penguins' Luc Jacuet, the nature film isn't a patch on the previous Oscar-nominated documentary, but has a charm that will entertain under-fives this weekend, if you are looking for something gentler than the usual action adventure flick.
