AUTHOR Alexander McCall Smith has donated a "significant" sum to the Edinburgh International Book Festival.
The Edinburgh-based writer would not reveal an exact figure, except to say that it was "less than a million pounds".

He said: "The festival has a new scheme and was approaching people and I am happy to give, I am pretty keen on the festival."
