Steve Adey has been hiding his vocal talent behind the musical scenes until now, but his understated, melancholy works well on the other side of the microphone. Covers of Bonnie Prince Billy's 'I See A Darkness' and a powerful reading of Dylan's 'Shelter From the Storm', not to mention his own compositions titled 'Mary Margaret O'Hara', should give you an idea of where Adey is coming from.
But neither those pointers nor the involvement of Blue Nile and Prefab Sprout producer Callum Malcolm are more significant than his own talent, even if the sombre tone is a little relentless after a while.
