VARIOUS: JOHNNY CASH REMIXED
**
EARMUSIC, £13.70
LIKE Elvis before him, poor old Johnny Cash is not around to object strongly to this bowdlerisation of his Sun Records legacy, executive produced by Snoop Dogg with the misguided blessing of John Carter Cash. Of course, Alabama 3 muscle in, having based their entire career on the unhappy marriage of dance and country music. The project boasts the occasional sympathetic treatment, such as Midnight Juggernauts' blissfully melancholic remix of Port Of Lonely Hearts. But the horrible Kid Rock-style mutilation of Sugartime is a crime more heinous than shooting a man in Reno just to watch him die. Most bewildering of all is the Snoop Dogg/Cash "duet" on I Walk The Line, which consists of Doggy shout-outs and the utterly ridiculous interjection "I'm charismatic as spasmatic get a guy automatic with no static" (at least, that's what it sounds like he's saying). Truly bizarre.
