This newly remastered 1955 album sounds as fresh as ever and provides a terrific introduction to the vibes-led MJQ, which back then was in its infancy – even though it was already on its second drummer (Connie Kay had replaced Kenny Clarke). The five tracks, which include a lovely Gershwin medley, showcase the MJQ's classical-inspired take on jazz and are bookended by two catchy original numbers, of which pianist/composer John Lewis's title track is especially delightful.
