Derek Ogilvie has been peddling this nonsense for years.
I have personally analysed a number of readings he has given and have found absolutely no evidence of psychic powers.

He is just using old fashioned Cold Reading a magicians trick to appear psychic.

We have published a number of articles exposing Derek Ogilvies techniques and I invite anyone who believes in him to check them out.

I agree with Jon's conclusion that Derek is simply using the Cold Reading techniques that psychics in general use.

He does the reading on the parent, not the child (the readings can be done without the child being present for example).

Although any intervention will likely be successful where people are having problems, I have reservations of allowing someone who claims a psychic ability but has no actual relevant qualifications.

Children are the most precious thing we have. To base our parenting skills on the say so of 'psychic information' is at best inappropriate.

I remain completely inconvinced by the claims of Ogilivie. The problems identified were vague and many of his comment seem to have no significance at all the the family.

I'm sure talking calmly to your baby, a technique which would require alot of eye contact and a familiar and soothing tone of voice, would be beneficial but you might as well be reciting the works of Shakespeare, as explaining your actions.

If you are having teething problems with parenthood, and frankly who doesn't, go and see a health visitor or child psychologist, not a psychic.

I do not claim to be an expert, but i have had 2 readings from Derek. One at a concert and one in my home.

Although these readings were not about my child they were about my family and our lives.

Much to my amazement Derek knew things about my home life and personal information that only my husband knew about.

I was very skeptical about the whole thing as I have had strange abilities that I cannot explain all my life. I even found it hard to believe. Although i do completely now!!

If he is cold reading as you believe, who cares!!!

The help that I have recieved by meeting this incredible man has changed my life and the lives of many others. To prove this check out his forum!!!!!

Ogilivie does not charge for his services, so whether he is psychic or not does not matter as long as he is offering helpful advice and the advice works for the family. From what I read, his advice is very helpful and positive, and it does enable the parent to view their baby as an individual and not just an extension of themselves.

However, I do believe that he is gifted, otherwise how did he see the picture of the tea kettle on his show? He was reading someone's mind. How did he know about the shift that occurred when Junior was 7 months old? Wasn't Ogilivie correct when he suggested feeding Junior in smaller portions? He obviously was reading someone's mind, unless the mother told him how she serves Junior his meals. Give the guy some credit.

However, there is a potential for harn being done if the baby has a medical condition and Ogilivie does not "pick up on it". A medical doctor's advice should be sought out first, and if the child is ok medically, the I can understand the parents' need to keep seeking out help. This guy is harmless, so why be so intent on not believing he's psychic?
