Saw some of his work in the Museum of Modern Art in New York 2 years ago. You could always tell the most popular pieces by the constant crowd around a particular work. A huge crowd of Midwest tourists were huddled around Warhol's Campbell's Soup Cans (he really had a fondness for Campbell's) oohing and aaahing to beat the band.
Like him or not, art's true test is time and for Andy, so far so good.

I never understood why a can of soup was considered art. I think people are more fascinated by him than his art. He must've had a good PR firm.

He was an artist who managed to get into the public consciousness at the right time and in the right place. Warhol will forever be an icon of the various Sixties revolutions onwards, because he captured the mood of the times. Maybe not the greatest of artists ... but certainly one of the most imaginative and influential to art students everywhere!

I'll certainly be taking the family to see the exhibition.

comment 6 is pure art. Warhol would approve.

Warhol followed on the dadaist tradition, with a bit of popart thrown in.

Duchamp was one of his heroes.

#5 Artist

I think he may be jealous of Warhol's consummate marketing ploys which continues to this day through the Warhol Trust or Foundation or whatever they call it.

Warhol was a manipulator and had legions of groupies about him who aided in or completed his many, many - maybe far too many - artworks.

A truly strange man whose legacy will never go away.
