What is it? A Brazilian wax is essentially a bikini wax with hair removed in the front, back and everywhere in between, leaving a neat "landing strip".
Where? One Spa at the Sheraton (0131-221 7777). An eye-watering session costs £20 with therapist Ishbel and takes up to half an hour.
How does it work? Modesty is protected as much as possible courtesy of some paper panties before the therapist s
ets about testing your flexibility with some wax-friendly positions. Waxing usually starts at the front and moves towards the back. The waxer will dip a waxing stick into a pot of hot wax and then spread it on to your skin and hair. She will then apply a cloth strip over the still-warm wax, pressing firmly so the cloth, hair and wax adhere to one another. When the wax has cooled, she will pull the strip off, in the opposite direction to your hair growth, pulling the hairs out by the root. Everything – absolutely everything – is removed, except that strip.

"The worst part is the more sensitive regions but it's only sore for seconds. My therapist put a cooling cream on each area and it was fine. The result was great and I felt relaxed and confident on my summer holidays. I'll definitely have it again – but I'll be taking the painkillers first. Not for the fainthearted."
