SHORTS have long been a fashion favourite for many during the summer months.
According to Erin Scott, 28, brand manager for Vivienne Westwood in Scotland, they started to become really fashionable around five years ago.
"I think you need to play with accessories and nice detailing to make the outfit more interesting," she
adds.
From the shortest denim shorts and playsuits, to masculine-tailored and knee-length shorts, you're sure to find something that tickles your fashion fancy this summer.
Miss Scott says: "Shorts are really starting to branch out into formal wear as well which is really nice. Because shorts have been around for so long, I think we need to start being more adventurous. For example, go for nice bright colours like aqua or purple."
PLAYSUITSIf you are aiming for a simple day-time look from your playsuit, opt for a pair of comfortable wedges which will also add height to your outfit. Gold accessories are a must-have for brightly coloured playsuits.
Wear a thin belt high around your waist to flatter your figure if your playsuit is loose fitting, and it's a good idea to match the colour of your belt with your jewellery.
Playsuits also look great with tights and flat shoes, and don't be afraid to brighten up your look with a bright cardigan.
Miss Scott says: "Playsuits can be worn day or night – I'm a big fan. Remember the accessories and your playsuit will do the talking."
TRY:Topshop's drape panel crepe playsuit, £45, purple playsuit by Tu at Sainsbury's, £12, woven wedge shoe, New Look, £20.
SHORT DENIM SHORTSDenim shorts look great with gladiator sandals for a more casual day-time look, and particularly suit people with a slim figure.
To elongate your legs in the evening, slip into a pair of high-heels or wedges.
Avoid skimpy tops with short shorts, and instead opt for a loose blouse or top to avoid taking the focus away from your bottom half.
Opt for a darker shade if you are pear-shaped, as light colours can make you appear wider.
Miss Scott adds: "If you want to smarten your day-time look up, you could wear a textured jacket."
TRY:Denim raw hem 10" shorts, Miss Selfridge, £25, embroidered vest, Tu at Sainsbury's, £12, turn up denim shorts, Dorothy Perkins, £18.
LONGER AND KNEE-LENGTH SHORTSKnee-length shorts suit all shapes and sizes and look fantastic with heels if you're going out to dinner or even a party.
If your knee-length shorts have a masculine tailoring, don't be afraid to wear a floral top to achieve a feminine edge. Denim knee-length shorts look great with flip-flops and a light-coloured blouse for a summer, day-time look.
Miss Scott said: "A lot of people are really scared of wearing tiny shorts – pear-shaped women maybe won't want to wear short ones because it would highlight their bottom half - but everybody can wear knee-length shorts."
TRY: Somerton shorts from Long Tall Sally, £30. Print top, £12, tailored shorts, both Matalan, £10.
