STAN GETZ

Sweet Rain Verve

If you thought that Stan Getz only played cool and airy tenor sax then this is the CD to make you think again. The antithesis of his dreamily romantic bossa nova musings of the early 1960s, this 1967 album finds him blowing bluesily and with a raw, rough-edged tone that you won't hear on 'The Girl From Ipanema'. Mind you, there are no gentle guitars and ethereal vocals here: he's propelled through the five tracks by Chick Corea (piano), Ron Carter (bass) and Grady Tate (drums).
