It's a brief trip but Turgoose will go far

DIRECTOR Shane Meadows returns to the Edinburgh Film Festival with something that really shouldn't be as good as it is: Somers Town started out life as a promotional short for Eurostar.
Thomas Turgoose, the young star of This is England, is once again called upon for leading man duties as Tomo, recently arrived in the central London district of Somers Town from Nottingham.
Meanwhile Polish father and son, Mariusz (Ireneusz Czop) and Marek (Piotr Jagiello) are trying to make ends meet while remaining a "normal" family.
Tomo and Marek soon meet up and do what boys do – dream of girls, get drunk and go wild.
Turgoose in particular is a revelation. Humour and one-liners pepper his dialogue.
For a train company sponsored film it's perhaps apt that, at only 75 minutes, this is an all too brief encounter with charming characters in a story that thankfully never goes off the rails.
Cineworld, tonight at 5.30pm, and tomorrow at 2.30pm.
