Spoilt for choice with Picotto and Holmes

Two of the world's top DJs descend upon Edinburgh tomorrow for what promises to be two cracking sessions.

The snag? Both will be appearing at the same time. While Italian trance and techno legend Mauro Picotto showcases the tracks that made him a world-wide star at the Liquid Room, over at the Voodoo Rooms, Belfast DJ, producer, film soundtrack maestro, and all-round nice guy David Holmes will be digging out some funky tunes from his record box. Who will you choose to go and see?

Ever since he caught the DJing bug with a Top 20 hit (We Gonna Get) in the mid-90s, Picotto has established himself as a firm fixture on the European dance charts. His tune Bakerloo Symphony spent eight weeks at Number 1 on the Italian charts, and it wasn't long before the 41-year-old from Cavour was remixing and producing for the likes of the Pet Shop Boys, Jimmy Sommerville and U2. But that was before Picotto began playing regular six-hour sets at Gatecrasher:

"I used to," explains Picotto, the first DJ to ever play live on Top of the Pops "but I began to grow up and the generation of people I was playing to was growing up with me. I began to make the transition into techno because it felt right and I loved the music." Picotto performs a set packed with anthems such as I Feel Love, Pulsar and New Time, with support from Nuklearpuppy's Jason Cortez and Luvely's Dean Newton.

The other must-have ticket on Saturday night goes to Holmes.

A DJ since he was 15, the former chef and hairdresser has been cutting up disco floors with his chunky funk tunes since the early 90s. Danny DeVito commissioned him to write the score for Steven Soderbergh's Out of Sight starring George Clooney) in 1998, thus leading Holmes on to commercial success and more groove-laden cuts for other Hollywood movies, Ocean's Eleven, Twelve and recently, Thirteen.

Reworks of tracks by Primal Scream, The Manic Street Preachers and Ice Cube ensued. Find out what record-spinning mood he's in at the Voodoo Rooms tomorrow night.

Also on Saturday, and boasting two massive full houses already in 2008, Stereotype keeps propping up Edinburgh's club scene.

With an all–star local line-up in store, the spectacular will thrill you with the main room slamming out the best in electro and techno. The Lounge is hosted by Ricky Reid and Barry Fell, who will delve deep into the vault for the best in soul, disco and house; and Master Caird is joined by Motherfunk's Gino for an 'anything goes' selection of hip-hop, funk, indie and rock classics.

The queue for last month's Stereotype ran onto Queensferry Street, so arrive early.

Meanwhile, Sugarbeat's Tim and Jez (aka Utah Saints) are excited to have Radioclit down at Cabaret Voltaire tonight for their debut on the hallowed decks. Having risen through the ranks quickly with their 'Ghetto electronic' style, the in-demand production team are largely responsible for bringing the Baltimore sound to the UK and making it their own.

Helping out on the night, Mooqee has been attracting a lot of attention over the past year. Known for hitting the dancefloor where it hurts, he is always full of surprises and well worth checking out. Toni Jarvis, however – very much the rising first lady of the electronica scene – will also be on hand to tear up the dancefloor.

Finally, a new club comes your way this week. Bumfunk – which starts on Sunday night at Cabaret Voltaire – should help fill the void since Taste left the building.
