TENDERNESS (15)
* *
Russell Crowe takes a supporting role as a semi-retired cop who is determined to prove that Eric (Jon Foster), a newly released teenage murderer, is not the model of rehabilitation he claims to be.

Eric's kindly aunt (Laura Dern) has offered him a new start – but temptation tracks him down in the shape of a disturbed runaway (Sophie Traub) who has admired Eric's well-publicised work in the past, in particular his "tenderness" when doing away with female victims. With a garbled narrative and little tension, Crowe and his improbable moustache are the only reasons to stick with this lacklustre film.

All on general release from Friday
