Published Date: 04 July 2008
AN American who was born a woman but has lived as a man since having surgery has given birth to a baby girl, it was reported last night.
Thomas Beatie, 34, who kept female reproductive organs when he legally became a man ten years ago after gender reassignment surgery and hormone treatment, confirmed the birth to a US magazine.

The baby, conceived by artificial insemination usin
g donor sperm and Mr Beatie's own eggs, was born in Oregon on 29 June and Mr Beatie and the baby are reportedly "healthy and doing well".

"The only thing different about me is that I can't breast-feed my baby. But a lot of mothers don't," Mr Beatie was quoted as saying.

He said the baby was not delivered by Caesarean section, but no other details about the birth were given.

Beatie told The Oprah Winfrey Show in April he began taking testosterone treatment and had surgery to remove mammary glands and flatten his chest ten years ago.

Upon deciding to have a child about two years ago, he halted his bimonthly hormone injections and resumed menstruating.

Mr Beatie's wife, Nancy, 46, whom he married five years ago, was unable to conceive.

The couple are legally married and Mr Beatie is recognised in law as a man.

The plot of this story is more convoluted than an Agatha Christie novel.

I am just 'bewildered' and quite-frankly feel like a moan!

Why are things just Soo unjust,?

There is my DYW and I, a 'Normal Couple' and we cant get Pregnant and we read stories like this and the 70year old Woman that gave birth to "Twins", in this paper today!

Its Just NOT fair!

(but then again, what is,?)

For us, reading articles like this, just adds to the,..

Upset, Pain and Devastation, 'Infertility' brings for my DYW and I.

Have you thought of surrogacy or adoption? Any way you can have a baby is the right way.
I am sorry if this sounds like a sermon. Best of luck.

Hmmm living as a man and wanting to have kids, hardly living as a man then.
Just another screwed up american who doesnt know what they want ( and b4 I get ripped apart here, other countries have nut jobs as well ), but the states has more than the odd 1 or 2.
You can see that with the gun laws alone

Douglas ~5,

Ah well my moany mood has passed now, don't anyone think that I am like that 'Victor Meldrew' in the TV programme,' One Foot in The Grave',..

If ever I get like him, it would be time for the,...

'End of Life Pill'

It just 'fills me with sadness' at times when you read articles like this, and the 'Heartbreak' that my wife must have in, not being able to conceive.

A 20s year old, that leads a healthy useful life who helps others.

Easy for some, 'HUH'?

But not for the ones that deserve to have their own Baby!

Can't understand how this came about. I thought that people undergoing "gender reassignment" had to be counseled, so what "medical professional" decided it was appropriate for someone to change sex but retain female reproductive organs?

Is that a rational thought?

Also, the baby was not born by CS so that suggests that the external genitalia still existed (it would have to have done as with female reproductive organs, presumambly this "guy" must have had periods - at least when fertile).

So what signatory to the hyppocratic oath carried out the surgery? Should he still be practicing?

Is there any day that you DO NOT like to have "a good b1tch"?

Charles Linskaill

God, in His infinite wisdom, and modern science will eventually bestow upon you and your DYW the child you so dearly desire.

I saw the interview on that b1tch Winfrey's show and the plot was tortuous and convoluted as described by another poster.

I don't usually watch her show because she is a pushy broad but a friend phoned me up and said I MUST watch this quagmire of a sorry saga.

Good luck to them...must have been some experience and some decision to have to come to but I sincerely hope that it all works out...there but for the grace of fate go I....

...There are plenty hermaphrodite people who retain their genitalia and do not undergo corrective surgery...at the end of the day why do we ALL have to be one gender or the other?
