DEIVIDAS CESNAUSKIS will ask to leave Hearts if he fails to establish himself under new manager Csaba Laszlo.
The on-loan FBK Kaunas winger has told the Evening News that he must become a first-team regular during the forthcoming season or look to move elsewhere. Cesnauskis is keen to impress himself upon the Hungarian during the final year of his loan agreement, which expires next summer. The player would consider extending his stay in Edinburgh, but only if guaranteed regular game time.

The winger was introduced as a last minute substitute in Sunday's 1-0 victory over Hull City at Tynecastle.

He played 15 times for Hearts last season but most of his appearances were as substitute. With Laszlo continuing to evaluate his squad, Cesnauskis revealed he must consider his future if restricted to a peripheral role. "If Csaba says he doesn't need me for his team, if I am not playing, I want to leave Hearts," he said. "If you are not playing, you must change club. Csaba hasn't said anything to me so far, he wants to watch me in games first and then talk.

"My loan is for one more year. It's an important year for me. If I play, maybe I will sign a new contract. If not, I will go somewhere else. If I'm not playing after six months I will have to find something else.

"I hope this can be a big season for me but it depends how the coach looks at me. He has been here a couple of weeks and I believe he trusts me. He also has Mikoliunas on the right side, Beslija has come back, so these are his choices. I will work hard in training and then take a decision."

Hearts expect to hear in the next 48 hours whether Uganda internationalist David Obua has been granted a work permit with an appeal to be heard at Hampden.

Meanwhile, Hearts full-back Robbie Neilson is back in light training after recovering from an Achilles injury which forced him to miss the club's entire pre-season campaign.

The Scotland internationalist has had to wear a protective boot for the past few weeks but with that now removed he is free to step up his rehabilitation process.

However, it is likely to be a number of weeks before Neilson comes into contention for selection for the first team. Jambos boss Laszlo said: "It has been a frustrating time for him but he can now concentrate on getting back to full training.

"He's only done something like ten days running so he has a bit of work to get through to get himself ready."

Midfielders Ruben Palazuelos and Larry Kingston both picked up knocks in Sunday's win over Hull but both are expected to be fit for the visit of Motherwell this weekend.

he's obviously not the sharpest tool in the box is oor chesney. he's given himself a nasty dose of vlad-flu in the past by gobbing off about stuff.

he might just have consigned himself to the vlad-flu isolation ward again with that one.

obua will not be granted a work permit. the "independent appeals panel" is very much NOT independent.

Chesne - I understand - but holding the proverbial to managements heads does not usually work. Example - radio program - "Romanov can be a strange man" - benched for 5 months.
I'm surely NOT the only jambo that reckons that the committee convening at Hampden tomorrow (for the Obua case)is the equivalent of a kangaroo court.Last time the voting on a work permit tribunal for a prospective Hearts player had 4 ex FFFHibees on the panel. Why bother - Just say no now - it's rigged after all ..............Mind you - all those Morroccans got in while not satisfying the criteria.

Is Fletcher , Rob Jones's wee brother - apart from looking similar (hair styles , 2 day shadow etc same faces ) their lugs are about the same size - bloody huge.Maybe they are secret inbred Weegies.

If Csaba really does have decision making powers over team selection then I look forward to seeing guys like Chesny, Beslija and Mikolunius battling it out for the 'right' to start games. Many of our recent problems have come from vlad Flu and players not trying because they have felt secure enough in their position to not need to impress... The right midfield berth is a classic example of this situation in my view.

If we have these guys competing for a starting place with no favouritism shown to guys who underperform then this will be beneficial to the team.

It is not just on the right of midfield that this applies either.

I really hope we sign Davy O' as he would provide competition to the likes of Driver and wallace too and if these two young guys show the right attitude then we will perhaps see more consistant performances from them when they are in the team as they will feel as though they need to uiumpress in order to keep the shirt.

Let's not all get on Robbie's back this term again as he should be given as much oportunity to improve under a stable manager as everyone else is being given and as competent as Thomson appears to be he is a little younger and does not need to be thrown in at the deep end of a hithertoo over rotated back four.

Don't want to state the obvious and pass it off as wisdom but the most important thing we need to see from our players this season is consistency as we have a lot of talent in there but they have been allowed to rest on their laurels too long and only shown glimpses of what they are capable of.

Imagine the diference in our team if Stewart, Chesny, Nade and Kingston played to the best of their abilities in every game... We would have a bit of a team.

This is still symptomatic of Vlad's decsions. We have no strikers yet Miko, Chesny, Kingston and Beslija for our right mid.

For my two pence, I can't blame Chesny. I would play him on the right with Kingston and Ruben/Johnsson in the middle and Drvier on the Left. There you are, midfield sorted, now for the strikers...

I think he deserves a chance along with the rest and would expect him to want to move on himself if he doesn't play well enough to hold down a place in the team.

Thomson is no racehorse either and if we get on Neilson's back and it effects his confidence then every team in the SPL will just keep hitting us on the right as they know he will make a blunder eventually with the entire support baying for his blood.

I can honestly say that iam not bothered who starts the season off as long as there is a system for the team to play in so that when players are injured or suspended then the gap can be filled by a player with similar qualities.The team must get a chance to gel and Csaba MUST be given time to opt for HIS best eleven.

IE.we cannot be making 5 and 6 changes per game to satisfy the crazy fool playing LMA 2008/09 again.

Signs are good and iam extremely optimistic for the season ahead.

Totally disagree. Robbie is never going to be Cafu but is probably the most professional player at Tynecastle and is acredit to the club on and off the pitch. Last season while most of the team was swanning about hardly breaking sweat he was one of the few players who could be relied upon to give 100%.

Levein, Robbo, and George Burley amongst others seemed to think he was good enough to play in their teams.

And if Thomson has a run of bad form? Do we then slate him and leave ourselves with no cover at right back... Thomson is young and I think he is a good player but seriously i think some people overreact when it comes to neilson.

He is no silky footballer by any stretch of the imagination but at least he can tackle unlike some of our players he gives it 100% if we bin him then we are left with one rookie RB and no cover.

Even if Thomson is first choice we will need Neilson to remain commited and trying to win his place back otherwise the slightest injury or suspension at RB and we are fooked.

He has to be given a chance until we have two better players than him in that position.

Guys I know RN is not the best full back in the world, but i think peiople are being a bit harsh on him IMO. yeah he frustrates us at times, and we can have our moans, but RN has always given 100% which is a lot more than can be said for some of the players at Tynecastle. Lets not also forget RN basically won us the Scottish Cup in 2006. Have many people forgot about the last ditch tackle to stop Gretna scoring at the end. Probably one of the best tackles I have ever saw, considering the circumstances of it as well.

Completely agree. He will never be called a class player but receives far too much critism.

He doesn't make too many critical mistakes and I have yet to see anyone play better at right back for us (baring Tall's spell @right back during the first half against Celtic before he got injured).

In short layoff Robbie and give it to Miko.

If your good enough your old enough in my book. I don't see Juande Ramos wrapping Gareth Bale in cotton wool at the moment.

The way Hearts fans get on players backs is wrong period regardless of who it is. The treatment Callum Elliot got last season was a disgrace for example.

I'm not doubting RN's commitment but there is a better player in his position at the club simple as that and he'll have to fight for his place like everybody else.

Was reading though that while Obua was on trial at west Ham they were confident he would get a work permit based on the fact he would have been adding to the quality of the team as the position he would have filled he was classed as a better player. something along those lines.

Now am sorry but if West Ham think they would have got a work permit based on those rules then im prety sure Hearts can use the same reasons and be more valid at an appeal

Cant see Obua being given the permit - the "Scottish Mafia" comments have probably seen to it that we'll get no decisions in our favour for some time.
Thomson or Robbie, lets just hope they play well. Although Robbie made some mistakes last season, it was just symptomatic of the disorganisation throughout the team.
Even so, we still managed some good results last term - beating both the old firm. With the organisation Csaba has brought, amongst other things, this season should be a big improvement.

Initial applications
To be eligible for a work permit:
a player must have played for his country in at least 75% of its competitive 'A' team matches he was available for selection, during the two years preceding the date of the application; and
the player's country must be at or above 70th place in the official FIFA world rankings when averaged over the two years preceding the date of the application.
Competitive matches
The definition of a competitive 'A' team international match is a:
World Cup Finals game;
World Cup Qualifying group game; and
Football Association confederation tournament game, for example:
The FIFA Confederations Cup;
Tthe UEFA European Championships and Qualifiers;
The African Cup of Nations and Qualifiers;
The Asia Nations Cup and Qualifiers;
The CONCACAF Gold Cup;
The CONCACAF The Copa Caribe;
The CONMEBOL Copa America;
The OFC Nations Cup and
The UNCAF Nations Cup

International appearances
Prior to submitting an application, clubs should provide written confirmation of the player's international appearance record over the preceding two years highlighting the competitive 'A' matches. This should be obtained from the player's home association. The sports and entertainments team, UK Border Agency, will be unable to make a decision on the application until written evidence is provided. If any evidence submitted needs verifying, the sports and entertainments team, UK Border Agency, will liaise with other parties and verify all information through all available sources, if necessary.
Injuries
Exclusion from selection for international matches due to injury or suspension will be taken into consideration when applying the criteria. Clubs should submit supporting evidence in such cases stipulating the games the player has missed.
It should be noted that where a player is listed as on the substitutes' bench, he will not be considered as injured when reaching a decision on a work permit application.

If Chesney can get back to his early days form, then he is worth giving a game. I thought he was a good player when he first came although became lethargic because he was pretty much playing anyway. Things may be different under Laszlo so if he is prepared to work he deserves a chance. Miko is a different story tho.

FIFA rankings
There are currently 204 international teams listed in the official FIFA world rankings. Those countries which have regularly achieved a 70th placing or higher over a period of two years are regarded as nations who have competed regularly at a highly competitive international level and have players of the highest standard who have contributed consistently to the achievement of that world ranking.
The sports and entertainments team, UK Border Agency, will produce the aggregated two-year rankings list on a monthly basis when the official FIFA world rankings are published and those countries ranked 70th or above meet the criterion. The aggregated rankings can be downloaded from this website. If clubs have any queries about the rankings they should contact the sports and entertainments team, UK Border Agency.
Length of issue
Work permits will be issued for the period of the player's contract, up to a maximum of five years.
Extension Applications
Where the permit approval is about to expire and the player meets the criteria outlined above for initial applications.
If a club wishes to retain the services of a player, they should submit a new application before the work permit expires. If the work permit criteria are satisfied, a permit will be issued for the period of a player's contract, up to a maximum of five years.
Where the permit approval is about to expire and the player does not meet the criteria for initial applications
Where an application does not meet the criteria, then a club may request that it be considered by a panel.

Changes during the period of approval
Change of employment
A club wishing to sign a player from another United Kingdom club must submit an application to the sports and entertainments team, UK Border Agency. If the work permit criteria are satisfied, a permit will be issued for the period of a player's contract, up to a maximum of five years.
Loans
If a player is moving to another club on loan then the new club

Panels
Where an application does not meet the published criteria, a club may request a panel to consider the player's skills and experience. In these cases the sports and entertainments team, UK Border Agency, will refer the club's evidence to an independent panel.
Where possible the club's supporting evidence will be sent to the governing bodies in advance for their consideration in order to allow an informed decision.
The panel will normally consist of representatives from the relevant football governing bodies together with up to three independent experts.
The panel's terms of reference are:
To consider whether the player is of the highest calibre.
To consider whether the player is able to contribute significantly to the development of the game at the top level in United Kingdom.
The panel will make a recommendation to the UK Border Agency whose decision will then be relayed to the club.
Full terms of reference and roles of the panel members and the club are available to attendees.
Clubs should note that, in respect of any application, there will only be one panel available (i.e. a panel and recommendation, followed by a decision). A club should therefore ensure that all evidence it wishes to present in support of its application is presented to the panel.
If the club has previously made an application that was unsuccessful at panel a further panel cannot be requested for the same player during the season. For these purposes a season is deemed to run from 1 June until 31 May.

#64 good point. but its mainly the hibs fans who are banging on about our debt and how long we take to pay our bills etc. they have much more interest in it than any hearts fans i know!! at the end of the day we just want to watch a decent hearts team. which we had before any real investment and vlad put paid to that. the thing is robbie neilson has always been cr*p but he has always given 100%. thats why i will always support him with my head in my hands and my heart in my mouth! but the likes of elliott and the man in this article with the toys out the pram attitude and if i dont play im gone then they can f**k off. they wont be missed.

Seeing as im making a a*se out myself here talking sense.

How many here would rate there chances of handling playing for Hearts, under such atmoshpear.
Modern day football full of its high earners/ low performers and supports full of critics.

I have laughed so many times at the physical inadequacies of the moaners in the stands or the armchair /pubs, with there 4 bellies of finesse.

Its easy to criticize the faults of many, time to waken up to that fact your jealous.

Cheers

# 47 Spot on

The Rangers fans have been met off their planes by Lithuanian riot cops - HA !
"Hello Hello Hello - what have we here then - battons out - CHARGE " (In Lithuanian of course)

Lots has been written about Robbie Neilson above.
Last two seasons he has looked reasonable and that's all. Partially to do with a bad team playing round about him as to not stand out so badly. When he was playing in the good team 2/3 seasons ago he unfortunately stood out to be our weakest link. Due to our recent left backs (Wallace and Goncalves) being mince - opposing managers have been able to go down both flanks whereas as Fyssas used to stop attacks , sending forward moves down Neilson's side all the time.
See how Thomson performs when he gains enough confidence to make attacking forays down the right but having had a number of games under his belt (not many though)that has to happen sooner rather than later.

The only card we can play with Obua's attempted signing is to stress that he was player of the year in South Africa (though they are only ranked 67 in the world just now) and that West Ham were keen on him. His international caps stand for zilch as the Belarussian we tried to sign had more of them - mind you - there WERE deviants on the SFA/SPL panel that day. (what do I mean only "that day" ? )
Astute Hearts officials might have contacted West Ham and asked them for their dossier/preparity work relating to their proposals to any work committees. They might have unearthed some decent reasoning.

Who am I kidding - he is as good as refused already - Pat Nevin layed the ground work for that with his comments in last Sundays newspapers - some refer to him (Nevin)as a tiny , effemenate whelp - I of course would not.

81.

I know that many Jambos are dissalusioned, this has been the case since i was born. I am now 42 and pretty much seen it all following Hearts.The obvious is that i am part of the Support that followed Hearts thru the late 1970s, this surely was the worst football era for us.
The 80s were such fun even tho Journeys to Palmerston park were the norm amoungst other sh*tholes.
The present state of the club is a million miles away from the Dads Army days,Delapedated ground no training ground players not getting paid and fans fighting each other.
The season 1985-86 Albert Kidd. St Mirren side with former Celtic players laying down. Aberdeens clinical display against us in cup final.
Euro results followed making Hearts a talking point.
then its barren again till 1996-97, Hearts losing ot Rangers in cup finals untill eventualy winning scottish cup and the celebrations from the Mound to Tynecastle park.Repeated again 10 years later with Hearts winning another Big cup and also splitting the Rantic and entering the Qaulifying stages of Champions league.

A cpl Of the usual nothing seasons and here we are today.

We support the club no matter what, its ridiculous to read most of the comments on these threads. Thats the ones from Jmabos

Respects

A Jambo

I rekon Hearts could finance the above 7 strikers for around £2.5M in outlay, not a huge sum and a further £3M after new year spent on other specialised positions in first team.

Dont see it happening

Im only mentioning Dickov N Freedman because in my opinion they have a lot to offer our young guns.
Both players have pretty solid reputations as finnishers and played at relatively high levels.
Both are of course Scottish and experienced Pros, making them top of my list if i had a say.

I dont have a say

Im Like Lazio tho id love Toni and Messi.....

95

jon doe,

We do need 7 strikers, our young guns are on long contracts, we need older heads with top class mentality.
Also the choice of names have the ability to hold up the ball for other players to score from deeper positions.

jon doe,

I agree completely regarding Robbie and it always astounds me that people are so quick to stick the boot in to our players when they know it will unsettle them and cause them to make mistakes.

As i said above i think Neilson is a better player than he is given credit for and feel he deserves the same chance to prove himself as all the other players are being given... More perhaps as despite his limitations he actually seemed to care if we lost games last season which is a lot more than can be said for some.

Regarding the skinheads discussing the cooking of the books however I think you have to concede that the world has moved on an awfull lot since then and so has football. More is reported about financial matters these days and so in such a competitive market there is always a real fear that poor financial management could lead to a clubs collapse... unfortunately in this capitalist world of today it is money that determines success.
