THE best of Scotland's house building industry celebrated last night at the annual Scottish Home Awards, sponsored by the Dunfermline Building Society.
TV presenters Colin and Justin presented the the inaugeral awards which are set to become an annual feature.

Applecross had a very successful night, winning Best Waterside Apartment for its Waterside Green development at Meggetland, Craiglockhart,
Edinburgh.

Individuality is the theme at this development with a total of 78 individual apartments, 27 different house types and six separate blocks arranged around a central courtyard.

The company was also awarded Springfords Medium Housebuilder of the Year as well as the Savills Housebuilder of the Year Award and commended in particular for its customer care.

Gladedale (Central Scotland) collected two awards. Its Richard Gate development in Oatlands, Glasgow is part Scotland's largest single community regeneration scheme, consisting of a total of 1,275 homes and was the winner of the Dunfermline Building Society Affordable Development of the Year Award.

Gladedale (Central Scotland) also won the Poggenpohl and Kitchens International City Apartment of the Year Award for its Fusion development in Glasgow's city centre which impressed the judges with its chic styling and reasonable price tag, as well as its suitability for purpose as a city pad.

The Scotsman Publications Conversion of the Year award was presented to newcomers to the housebuilding scene. Brothers, Steven and Kenny Turnbell, a Quantity Surveyor and a business banker respectively, who only set up Country Lifestyle Homes Ltd two years ago.

Their first development Illieston Castle Steadings near Broxburn took top spot in the conversion category after all ten homes sold out within ten days of going on the market.

Judging of the Service Point Green Category had been led by Robin Harper MSP. The winner was Macfarlane Homes for The Cottage at its Rutherford Gardens development near West Linton. The Cottage features Scotland's first Huf Haus extension which is pioneering in its environmental features and energy efficiency.

CALA Homes took first place in the hugely competitive Business House of the Year Award. Its Rowanlea house type at Briery Meadow in Haddington was built in the style of local East Lothian properties with steep slate roofs, natural stone walls and wrought iron railings. The mix of indiginous styling and high tec design impressed the judges.

The Laufen at Scope Bathroom Luxury House of the Year Award was won by Zone Architects for a stunning one-off Edinburgh property, 20 Henderland Road, which demonstrates how contemporary design can complement a traditional Victorian streetscape. This is a house set to look modern for a considerable amount of time.

Meridian Homes were awarded Starter Home of the Year, sponsored by family. Its Tay Home at the Sycamore Gardens Development in Newmains, Lanarkshire proved that quality and innovation can be delivered to suit a first time buyer's budget even with added extras such as french doors and quality kitchens.

One of the most prestigious awards, CALA Finance Small Housebuilder of the Year award, went to Fife-based Thomas Mitchell Homes, a well established family-owned housebuilder which celebrate its fiftieth anniversary in 2008.
