ST ANDREW'S First Aid is a Scottish charity that provides on-site medical help at rock concerts and fêtes – and first aid courses to industry. I encountered them at the recent Burns Festival in Ayr and their volunteers were really hands-on and helpful.
It made me think about the time I had to apply first aid to a wee boy who broke his leg sledging on a hill near the bar I owned in Glasgow's East End.

So Jane would want us to give up religious education and support the St Andrews First Aid. Should we also give up the ‘St Andrew’s’ bit as well? Surely we owe something to the groups patron?

Yes I agree first aid should be taught in schools, which I think it is – albeit maybe not compulsory. But I would disagree that religious education does not add value to a child’s development. Surely a child will learn about all religions, not just the one that some parents may impart to their children. Besides, a truly good parent will know how to impart respect to their children.

I quite think First Aid would be a great subject to have in schools. Imagine the lives that might be saved with a society where everyone knew what to do and could act quickly. It would be truly amazing.

Compare that with religion. Yes, I suppose a quick run down of what others believe maybe but no more. The religious organisations have the weekend to indoctrinate children. There is no need to teach them about imaginary beings when they can be learning something of real value ot themselves and society.
