LIVINGSTON were last night given the green light to sign up to 20 players after their long- running transfer embargo was lifted by the Scottish Football League.
League chiefs imposed the signing ban in April 2007 after Livingston were found to have broken former player Emmanuel Dorado's contract in sacking him almost a year earlier.
With subsequent appeals failing, Livingston were unable to enter the tra
nsfer market from December last year as the row with the Frenchman continued.
However, before ex-chairman Pearse Flynn was bought out by an Italian consortium earlier this month, an agreement was finally reached with the SFL over a satisfactory figure – thought to be £50,000 – for the final year of Dorado's Almondvale deal. New chairman Angelo Massone transferred the funds and league chiefs are satisfied that the payment brings the drawn-out matter to a close.
Italian Roberto Landi, the club's new manager, will now step up his bid to add up to 20 new faces, with the Lions having only having five players tied up for the coming campaign.
SFL operations director David Thomson said: "We have engaged in discussions and correspondence with Livingston for the last few days. We have now received proof that Livingston have fulfilled the contractual obligations to the player (Dorado]."
