MISS POTTER
BBC1, today, 8pm
Renée Zellweger swaps Bridget Jones' big pants for Beatrix Potter's big bonnet in this cutesy biopic of the children's author. Ewan MacGregor, who last starred with Zellweger in Sixties kitsch flick Down With Love, plays Norman Warne, Potter's fiancé
and publicist, while some of the author's famous creations, including Peter Rabbit, come to life through animation. (2006)

OCTOPUSSY
STV, today, 3.05pm

Even for a Bond film, this is a bit over the top, with Roger Moore masquerading as a clown, a gorilla and a crocodile in his penultimate outing as the secret agent. The general gist is that after a British agent is found dead with a Fabergé egg, Bond hotfoots it to Germany and India to catch the smugglers. (1983)

A BRIDGE TOO FAR
Five, today, 8pm

Richard Attenborough directs an all-star cast including Michael Caine, Laurence Olivier, Sean Connery and Anthony Hopkins in this Second World War epic about Operation Market Garden. (1977)

THE BIG KAHUNA
BBC2, today, 12.30am

Kevin Spacey, above, injects some fresh life into the archetypal American travelling salesman looking for a big break in this adaptation of Roger Rueff's stageplay, Hospitality Suite. Danny DeVito and Peter Facinelli co-star as Larry's colleagues, who are equally eager to make a deal with the man dubbed 'the Big Kahuna'. (1999)

THE JACKAL
Friday, BBC1, 11.50pm

Bruce Willis stars as the mysterious assassin hired by a Russian mobster to carry out a deadly attack, while the FBI employ Declan Joseph Mulqueen (Richard Gere assuming an Irish accent), one of the few people who can identify the Jackal and who has his own reasons for wanting to track the killer down. (1997).

A BOY NAMED CHARLIE BROWN
Thursday, BBC2, 11.40am

Old-school animation and childhood nostalgia abound in this debut film outing of the cartoon-strip character. Here, Charlie Brown tries and fails to fly a kite but has better luck with spelling competitions. (1969)
