Danzi, Mozart: Sonatas And Variations

****

Fineline Classical FL72405, £10.99

Margarethe Danzi was a composer, pianist and singer, a contemporary of Mozart and a student of his father Leopold.

This recording of Danzi's 'Three Sonatas for Piano and Violin' reveals that, although little of her music is extant (these sonatas were published posthumously), what she did compose is extremely fluent and immensely likeable. Mozart's 'Six Variations on Hlas, jai perdu mon amant' dates from just before Danzi's arrival in the household as a student, and is a lively, engaging work, strikingly performed by two highly talented artists.
