CHRIS FLEGG
The Sound Of Life ***
Roots Records FLEGGCD 005, £12.99
He's been around a long time has Chris. He still runs weekly jazz venues in St Albans and plays soprano sax. These songs are all his own, accompanied by occasional sax, flute, percussion, concertina, and his stylish, varied and skilled acoustic guitar (he used to play with Diz Disley). Unashamedly English in songs of native primrose, poppy and bluebell, or metropolitan in 'She Got On The Train At Cricklewood,' he's no John Harle in the all-instrumental 'Prelude To Autumn,' and he ain't got the greatest voice in the world, but the songs are well worth a listen.
