BILL EVANS TRIO
Portrait In Jazz: Keepnews Collection *****

Riverside 0888072306783, £8.99

This newly reissued CD, the latest remastered and expanded album from producer Orrin Keepnews's collection, is not only a classic example of the work of pianist Bill Evans but of the jazz piano trio generally. Evans was a stunning, and massively influential, player who created a trio style in which all three instruments fused completely – and this 1959 session showcased one of his finest bands, with Scott LaFaro (bass) and Paul Motian (drums). This is the ideal introduction to Evans's supremely light touch and unique harmonics.
