THERE'S no shortage of ambition in this all-singing, all-dancing Judy Garland tribute in which the main narrative – that of a struggling theatre company trying to put on a musical about the superstar in question – also becomes a means of reflecting on Judy's life.
Trouble is, some of the attempts to draw these two strands together are clunky. If these "oh my gosh, the same thing happened to Judy…" moments were played for laughs, the show might work as a tongue-in-cheek comedy. They aren't, though, so the whole thing feels rather limp.
