He catches the dramatic lighting effect of a stray sunbeam on the surf as his wife Alexis surveys the view and enjoys the solitude of having the beach to herself. Rattray Head lighthouse, built by the Lighthouse Stevensons in the 1890s, can be seen on the left of the land mass.
