THIS photograph was taken in Uig last October. "I knew that the evening ferry from Harris would arrive around the same time as the sunset, so I set up my tripod and waited," says John Blair, a 52-year-old maths teacher. "Composing a photo is so often about getting the right angle," he says. "This is not a bad shot, but I guess the day you shoot the perfect picture is the day you give up and try something else!"

Can you do better than this? We are looking for the best amateur photography in Scotland. The choice of subject – people, industry, nature, scenery – doesn't matter. The pictures just have to be eye-catching.

Send your photos, a brief description and contact details to: Alan Macdonald, Picture Editor, Scotland on Sunday, 108 Holyrood Road, Edinburgh EH8 8AS; or e-mail almacdonald@scotlandonsunday.com
