Brave Jamie to tell of his Alpine horror
A MOUNTAINEER is to speak about his horrific accident that cost him his hands and feet at a talk in Our Dynamic Earth.
Morningside-based climber and author Jamie Andrew is giving the first Spirit of Wild Places lecture on May 10.
He suffered frostbite and hypo-thermia when trapped for five days in an Alpine storm.
Despite losing his hands and feet, Mr Andrew has made a remarkable recovery and raised tens of thousands of pounds for charity by running marathons and climbing mountains, including Kilimanjaro, with artificial limbs.
The lecture is organised by conservation charity the John Muir Trust. Trust chairman Dick Balharry said: "Jamie is such an inspirational speaker, we are delighted he is delivering the first Spirit of Wild Places lecture for the John Muir Trust."
