by Ruth Carruthers, Tain

THIS photograph was taken in Glasgow's Botanic Gardens using an infra-red camera, hence the eerie quality and the white bushes. "It looks like the shadow is a path that the man is walking along towards the entrance of the greenhouse," says 22-year-old Ruth Carruthers, who is studying for an MSc in biological photography and imaging. "I think it will let people see the Botanics in a different light."

Can you do better than this? We are looking for the best amateur photography in Scotland. The choice of subject – people, industry, nature, scenery – doesn't matter. The pictures just have to be eye-catching. Send your photos, a brief description and contact details to: Alan Macdonald, Picture Editor, Scotland on Sunday, 108 Holyrood Road, Edinburgh EH8 8AS; or e-mail almacdonald@scotlandonsunday.com
