SALAD BOWL
*
THE SPACE @ THE THISTLE (VENUE 36)
TRADING on the idea that its setting is just about the most multicultural, pansexual café in Soho, Salad Bowl (that's also the establishment's name) is an attempt to show a snapshot of the modern urban milieu. Yet this play is sadly a few hacked-up chunks of lettuce in comparison to the lush, continental London it seeks to portray. The performances are uniformly flat and hesitant, which is surely the chief reason why a production containing a transgender policeman, a nearly-requited lesbian affair and a mother who orders orange juice for her long-dead son every day should end up being quite so dull.

• Until 23 August. Today 5.10pm
