Published Date: 02 September 2008
JUST a day after his goal set Rangers on the way to a 4-2 win over Celtic at Parkhead, Daniel Cousin left the Ibrox club last night to join Hull City.
The 31-year-old has been deemed surplus to requirements at Ibrox for some time.

Fulham tried to buy the Gabon international during the January transfer window but fell foul of Fifa rules, which prevent a player representing more than two clubs in
one season.

The player still occasionally featured in Walter Smith's selections, and was a surprise starter in the Old Firm match on Sunday. He opened the scoring with an acute shot after cutting in from wide on the right. – but later was sent off after receiving two yellow cards.

"It was fantastic to finish my time at Rangers by scoring in the Old Firm game," the striker said last night. "I don't think I'll ever forget that experience.

"It has always been my ambition to play in the English] Premier League.

"It almost happened to me when Fulham came but now it's finally a reality. I wish Rangers all the best and believe they can recapture the title.

"I'd like the fans to know I always gave my best for them."

Cousin joined Rangers from Lens last summer but failed to convince Smith he could become a key part of his plans.

Smith described the forward as "inconsistent" on Sunday after he was sent off.

Hull had wanted to bring Manchester United forward Fraizer Campbell back to the KC Stadium following last season's successful loan spell.

It was unclear how Cousin's arrival would affect their pursuit of the 20-year-old.

Before signing for Rangers, Cousin spent his entire professional career in France, coming to prominence with Le Mans and Lens.

Meanwhile, Blackpool have confirmed the loan signing of Rangers midfielder Alan Gow, subject to international clearance.

The 25-year-old, who joined the Ibrox club from Falkirk last summer but who has made just two first-team appearances – against East Fife in the CIS Insurance Cup and East Stirlingshire in the Scottish Cup – will stay with the Seasiders until 1 January.

The Coca-Cola Championship side also have an option to sign the player permanently for a fee already agreed with Rangers.

Gow started his career with Clydebank but made his name at Airdrie and Falkirk, from where he was snapped up by Rangers.

But the move has not worked out, with Gow finding himself frozen out of the first-team picture.

He was wanted by Burnley and Norwich City recently, but he could now make his Blackpool debut against Barnsley when the Championship resumes on 13 September.

• Chris Burke has made his long-awaited return in a closed-doors game at Murray Park after more than four months on the sidelines.

The Rangers winger has been out of action since the Scottish Cup semi-final against St Johnstone in April, when he was carried off with an ankle injury.

Saints were the opponents again yesterday, with Burke playing the first 45 minutes of a 2-1 defeat, which also featured Nacho Novo, Jean-Claude Darcheville and Spanish youngster Aaron.

Shame its not Boyd going.

Its good to see Rangers players leaving with good memories of their time at Ibrox and not the acrimony which surrounds the moves of many players from our rivals.

Glad cousin has gone despite the fact he scored on sunday. The elbow part of his game will cost hull over the season as his discipline is his problem. His two attempts at headbutting last season were disgusting and as far as I`m concened good riddance.

It would be good to know we actually made a profit on him.

What are your thoughts on JVOH after his shocking behaviour on Sunday? He has a track record of this, just ask Amdy faye and Nacho Nove after the games at the end of last season.

Braesbear,

Hesselink is a thug and proved this in spectacular fashion on sunday.Every time he goes for a ball his elbows and arms are all over the opponent. He is a cheat, and has got away with dangerous play on many occasions. But maybe I`m being biased.

What we need is more refs of the standard we had on sunday.Absolutely no one can complain, and there can be no wild accusations of conspiracies from anyone.
The referee had a good game and kept in control, what can be a difficult game to handle for the most experienced refs.

Cousin always seemed to be threat when he played for Rangers (and I don't mean his aggressive nature
Maybe it was because he was so fresh....he only ever played one game, got red carded then had a 2 match rest and so on....
Wonder if he'll try the same at Hull...
19

We are more than covered for his departure and the possibility of wee £1m profit to boot, not too bad.

I agree with 19 that the referee had a great game. Shows what happens when the tic dont have a biased referee( Smith, Brines.etc.)
As fot jvh this referee done what others should have done in the last 2 games against them last season.
Well played the ref.

Never mind the 'on his day' bit....by a country mile Cousin was the only decent striker you had.

The rest I would not give you tuppence for, and Walter must be kicking himself for turning down Cardiff's £2M bid for big boydie...come Xmas, his waistline will reflect the lack of match sharpness, and there won't be too many interested parties in the january window....not at £2m there won't.

You might have a striker in Lafferty , but he's a bit too lanky to muscle our defence about the way Cousin could to such great effect. He wasn't fancied as a striker at Burnley and so the odds are against him making it in the spl in that role.

That leaves the usual suspects : Boyd,Miller,Three 3rses and Hertz reject Velicka....I'd take Maloney, our 4th choice striker before any one of them any day of the week.

Nice to see you back.

Boyd 25 goals last term as a part time player

Velicka 14 goals in the SPL before being transferred by HMFC

JCD can score goals

Lafferty @ 20 one for the future and has scored in the SPL this season

Miller 3 matches 2 goals.

How did you set of superstar strikers do on Sunday??

Sour grapes from Sundays match methinks.

He was sent off. If he'd spent the same energy using his talents through the whole of last season the way he's done to put himself in the market during the transfer window, Rangers might not be selling him.

Good luck to Daniel. I can't think that he'll be missed too much, but on the big occsion, when he could be bothered to rouse himself, he was a useful target man.

He scored several important goals for RFC, both domestically and in Europe, and we seem to have earned around £500,000 profit on him, so there are no real negatives. It was always too bad that he was unable to help himself from a few acts of gross stupidity on the field of play, but I certainly don't think that anyone will regret the fact that we had his services for a season.

The strike force will cope without him. Miller, I believe, will kick on from here and score a decent number of goals. Boyd can also be depended upon for a reasonable goals return in domestic football, and both Velicka and Novo are well capable of hitting double figures. Lafferty may well turn out to be the best of the lot, but I reckon it will be next season before we begin to see his true capabilities.

PS nice to see Burley, a spectator at CP, recognise the fine work from Broadfoot, who had a very comfortable afternoon against McGeady, and reward him with promotion to the full Scotland squad. The big guy is certainly limited, but he's coming on leaps and bounds.

I've said on the past on here that as distasteful as the BJ thing is ;if the shoe was on the other foot you'd be no different - Richard Gough leaps readily to mind.

Its just so typical of dhims like yourself to scrabble furiously for the moral high ground as if anyone gives an ar*e. Your brother Walfrid banner at the game with its "inclusion" proclamations was so unremittingly pious and naff.

Its football mate and thats just the way it is - as long as its left at the game and not taken in the streets who really cares - plankton who do perpetuate it (on both sides) will do it irrespectively.

Your truth aversion patter is really poor as well

Why do you have to try to take a thread down to a level most of us dont want to read.

Most of the posts were at a good banter level void of the nastiness and bitterness of comments such as,

"RFC has become a gathering place for morally bankrupt scvm"

You are entitled to what ever opinion you spout, but only recently have we been able to post on OF threads, is there any need to constantly bring up the same stuff over and over again.

Or do you want them closed to our posts.

Come on Pax lighten up the season is only 4 matches old.

I wish it were true that it was guff.

For 90 minutes on Sunday they bellowed out anthem after anthem with the recurring theme being racism, bigotry and paedophilia.

Quite honestly, I can't get my head 'round any reasonable person wanting to be part of a group like that.

For that lot, it isn't 'rivalry', because I believe rivalry to be something noble, something which at its roots holds some measure of mutual respect.

But this group of supporters have amongst them tens of thousands who see attendance at football stadia as an opportunity to celebrate their culture of hatred of all things Catholic or Irish.

The newspapers have condemned Artur Boruc for giving them 'the finger' , but not one Scottish newspaper has breathed a word about the ferocity and content of the racist and sectarian chanting that the police allowed to go unchecked for 90 minutes on Sunday.

The possibility of an outright ban on Rangers fans coming to CP has been on the agenda for some years, throughout three in a row and beyond. It has never been fancied as an option due to perceived legal difficulties the nature of which I am not aware of.

However, my understanding is that The Irish Consulate has for the last few years been taking a close interest and monitors the trends in terms of the expression of anti-Irish sentiment. The willingness of the authorities to sanction public expressions of anti-Irish sentiment.

If it can be shown that no action or inadequate action is being taken by the authorities to quell such public expressions of racism, they could lodge a complaint with The International Criminal Court at the Hague which could ultimately lead to Alex Salmond as head of the Scottish Executive, facing trial.

As you well know I have posted many times the chanting of sectarian or bigoted songs is over the top and something I think should be stopped, at away and home matches.

Only being able to watch the match here, I did not hear the chants you were referring to. I would have thought the 53-55k home supporters would have been able to drown out any RFC songs with the home support songs. Not making an excuse just thought they would be able to make more noise.

I think you were a little harsh regarding my post, as the main aim is to keep the threads open thats why I responded to you in the manner of my post.

Whats even more shocking is the total failure of the SCOTTISH LEAGUE & the CLUB INVOLVED with abuse to REFUSE to hold an open inquiry into how these crimes were perpetrated over several decades.
Obviously you'd rather sweep it under the carpet but then again we would rather do that with the signing policy which once existed, but your not letting us are you?
Now tell me honestly, which one requires full, open investigation the most?
