Blaise Donald, 28, runs Covet, a designer accessories shop on Thistle Street. She lives at Hillside.
What is your earliest memory of Edinburgh? We used to live on Princes Street when I was four. Because our living room looked on to the Castle, we'd have a huge fireworks party every year.

What are your memories of school? I have many happy m
emories of being at St George's School throughout primary and secondary.

Where is your favourite place in Edinburgh and why? I love Calton Hill because it has stunning views. I also love my back garden when the wine is flowing.

What are the best things about Edinburgh? The Edinburgh Festival is undisputedly top of my list of best things, but the contrasting architecture of the beautiful New Town with the historic Old Town will never cease to impress me.

What would you change about the city? Right now, I'd stop the tram works. Has anyone actually met the people who think they're a good idea? I'll probably love them when they actually arrive but, until then, I am reserving judgement. I'd also like to see more independent shops, bars and restaurants.

Describe a perfect Edinburgh day/night out I would take a walk in the morning up to the city centre for some boutique shopping before heading to Neal's Yard for a little girlie pampering with Anna Somerville, my business partner. We'd have lunch in our favourite French restaurant La P'tite Folie on Frederick Street, then visit the Dean Gallery in the afternoon. After being suitably cultured, we'd enjoy a cocktail or two at 99 Hanover Street before heading to see a live band in the evening.

Which sports interest you? Is shopping a sport?

What was your most embarrassing moment? It was pretending to be Madonna and demanding that the other impostors "leave my stage" after being hypnotised by a dog during the Edinburgh Festival.

What is your greatest achievement? It has to be giving it all up to open Covet. We recently moved into online sales and have already attracted customers from as far away as Sydney, Australia and the USA.

Sum up Edinburgh in three words Modern meets historic.
