THIS enthusiastic young cast pull off the tricky act of portraying life-weary characters who find refuge, opportunity and escape in their local pub.
Written by Jim Cartwright, it provides ample scope for these young actors, who are debuting at Edinburgh.
The production is fresh, thought-provoking and comic. It's a character study of a northern pub, with eccentric customers and a warring landlord and wife.
There is the old man who still talks to his dead wife; the arrogant and scheming playboy who'll try everything to get at his girlfriend's money while he looks to cheat on her with his roving eye.
There is the comic fat couple, who find solace in TV and daydreams and, as the play unfolds we discover the truth behind the lost love behind the bar – it is the anniversary of an event the landlord and his wife cannot bear to discuss.
