The fest show
June is festival month, and the planet has never felt more in need of a party. The first International Summer Festival of Ice Sculptures (www.en.planetyakutia.com) promises to be a pretty cool event, held in a cave with temperatures of –10°C at Ya
kutsk, in the far east of Siberia, from 24-27 June. For warmer temperatures, head to Rio de Janeiro for the Bonfire festival on 24 and 29 June, with a distinct folk and country theme – lumberjack shirts and painted freckles included. However, if you prefer your festivals with a little less country and a little more rock 'n' roll, check out the Nova Rock festival (www.novarock.at), in Burgenland, Austria, from 19-21 June, where the line-up includes Metallica and Placebo.

Stay fashionable

THE fashion brand Missoni launched its first hotel in Edinburgh this week. Set over six floors on the corner of the capital's George IV Bridge and the Royal Mile, the hotel's interiors are, unsurprisingly, designed by the company's creative director, Rosita Missoni. Like the brand's iconic clothing, the decor features splashes of bold colour alongside a stylish monochrome scheme. Guests will also find classic design pieces from the likes of Marcel Wandes, Eero Saarinen, Arne Jacobson and, in a nod to the Scottish location, our own Charles Rennie Mackintosh.

Room rates are £210 per night on an all-inclusive basis, which includes everything from breakfast and laundry services to internet access, local phone calls, movies and the entire contents of the minibar. To find out more, contact Hotel Missoni (0131-220 6666, www.hotelmissoni.com).

It's a guy thing

Maybe you're a man with rough cuticles or open pores. Or maybe you're fed up of your crusty feet but are too embarrassed to do anything about it. Well, now the Mediterranean villa group Coastline (www.coastline.co.uk) has come up with the answer to your problems. Men staying at any of its Corsican or Mallorcan properties can opt to have the Fireman's Facial, the Mechanic's Manicure, the Policeman's Pedicure or – ahem – the Working Man's Package. Prices start from £37.
